Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) collaborated with the Sindh Police Training Branch to conduct a two-day specialized course on the latest amendments and enactments in human rights laws, with a specific focus on women and children. Held at the School of Finance and IT, Central Police Office, Karachi, the training targeted newly appointed Probationary Inspectors of investigation and law within the Sindh Police.
The sessions, conducted on March 4th and 5th, 2024, aimed to deepen the understanding of relevant human rights legislation to ensure fair access to justice in legal proceedings. Azfar Mahesar, DIGP, graced the event as the chief guest, stressing the significant roles of Inspectors Law and Investigations in upholding justice. He emphasized the power, responsibility, and commitment required to shape a fair legal system. Mahesar highlighted the importance of effectively handling cases and assisting investigation officers in proper case registration and investigation procedures. Certificates and shields were distributed to participants by the chief guest and speakers, with DIGP Training Faizullah Korejo expressing gratitude to all attendees.
Under the Sindh Protection of Human Rights Act 2011, the SHRC aims to promote and safeguard human rights in the province, actively spreading human rights literacy through various means. Trainers at the course included prominent figures such as Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Muhammad Shahid Shafiq, Barrister Rida Tahir, Barrister Ali Tahir, and Barrister Aashir Masood Mahar. Topics covered during the training ranged from the Sindh Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act 2013 to the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention and Punishment) Act 2022, ensuring participants gained a comprehensive understanding of human rights legislation.
