Sindh government has approved 162 projects worth Rs 75.63 billion for Karachi. These projects are part of a larger budget allocation of Rs 187.3 billion for the city, with Rs 14.8 billion set aside in this financial year for immediate work. During a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House, chaired by CM Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, the decision was made to expedite the approval process for these projects, ensuring that work begins without delay.

Key officials in attendance included Minister for Planning and Development Nisar Hussain Shah, Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjhar, and Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah. Nisar Shah briefed the Chief Minister on the Rs 178.3 billion development program for Karachi. This includes 988 projects worth Rs 76.95 billion under the Provincial Annual Development Program (ADP) and six major projects worth Rs 103.05 billion under the External Assistance Program (EAP). Additionally, Rs 7.3 billion will be spent under the District Development Program.

Out of the 988 ADP projects, 346 have already received full funding and are expected to be completed by June 2025. Meanwhile, work on 826 projects is ongoing, with a budget of Rs 62.14 billion allocated for this year. The CM directed Nisar Shah to ensure the timely approval of the remaining 162 projects so that work can begin immediately. The total cost of the 988 projects under the ADP is estimated at Rs 344.88 billion, with Rs 76.95 billion allocated for the current year.

The remaining Rs 242.04 billion will be carried over to the next year. Murad Ali Shah urged officials to ensure that all allocated funds are fully utilized so that further funding can be secured next year. The six major projects funded by external aid, with a total value of Rs 403.98 billion, have been allocated Rs 103.05 billion for this year.

These projects include the Karachi Local Council Improvement Program (CLICK), Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP), and others aimed at improving public infrastructure and services. In a related development, the Chief Minister announced that Rs 14.49 billion had been released in a lump sum for 255 smaller projects, each worth Rs 50 million, which are expected to be completed by the end of this financial year.
