KARACHI – The Sindh government on Saturday withdrew previously imposed restrictions on business closing hours, allowing markets, shopping malls, restaurants, hotels, and marriage halls to operate according to their normal schedules.
Taking to X, previously known as Twitter, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that all commercial establishments, including shops, shopping centres, hotels, restaurants, food outlets, wedding halls, and marquees, have been exempted from earlier fixed closing timings. He said the decision has been taken to facilitate both the business community and the general public.

According to the minister, the relaxation reflects the provincial government’s policy focus on supporting economic activity, improving public convenience, and strengthening the business environment, which he described as a key pillar of the economy.
A notification shared by the minister stated that the earlier time restrictions—introduced under an energy conservation and austerity plan—have now been withdrawn. The directive had been issued by the Home Department under a notification dated 10 April 2026.
Memon said that the decision was made after reviewing concerns raised by traders and business representatives who faced difficulties under the restricted timings. He added that the government remains committed to addressing issues faced by the business community and will continue consultations with stakeholders.
The earlier restrictions were part of broader energy-saving measures implemented in response to rising fuel costs following regional tensions. Under that policy, businesses in non-divisional headquarters were required to close at 8pm, while those in divisional headquarters were allowed to operate until 9pm. Essential services, including pharmacies, hospitals, bakeries, milk shops, tandoors, and fuel stations, were exempt from the restrictions.
With the latest decision, commercial activity across Sindh is expected to return to normal operating hours, providing relief to traders and consumers alike.
