Sindh cities sizzle at 50°C as heatwave persists

KARACHI – Heatwave will continue to persist in most parts of Sindh on Monday and Tuesday with 06 to 08°C above normal day temperatures.
Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. High pressure prevails in the upper atmosphere, which will likely persist till May 27. A shallow westerly wave also prevails over northern parts of the country.
Under these conditions, heatwaves will likely persist in most parts of Sindh on Monday and Tuesday with 06 to 08°C above normal day temperatures in southern districts. Hot and humid weather is likely in Karachi and other coastal areas. Gusty/dust-raising winds are possible during the afternoon.
Karachi’s maximum temperatures will likely stay between 37-39°C on Monday and 38-40°C on Tuesday.
Hyderabad’s maximum temperatures will likely stay between 45-47°C on Monday and 46-48°C on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, heatwaves prevailed in most parts of Sindh during the last 24 hours.
Mohenjo-Daro remained the hottest place in the province where the maximum temperature was recorded at 53°C. Maximum temperature in Jacobabad was recorded at 52°C, Dadu at 51°C, Khanpur, Khairpur, Larkana, Padidan, Sukkur and Rohri at 50°C and Nawabshah at 49°C.

In Karachi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 37°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 75 per cent.
In Hyderabad, the maximum temperature was recorded at 44°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 66 per cent.
