Sindh government has revealed plans to launch an eco-friendly electric vehicle (EV) taxi service across the province. The initiative, which aims to modernize the region’s transport sector, will be supported by the establishment of a new regulatory authority and the development of a comprehensive EV charging infrastructure. A high-level meeting chaired by Sindh’s Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, was held in Karachi to discuss the details of the project.  Key officials, including Secretary Transport Asad Zaman and Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Kamal Dayo, were present as they outlined the steps needed to introduce EV taxis into the province. Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized the importance of integrating modern, environmentally friendly transportation options to attract investment and foster economic growth.

“This project is not just about reducing our carbon footprint; it’s about building a greener, more efficient transportation network that will benefit both the environment and local businesses,” he said. The senior minister further highlighted the creation of a regulatory body tasked with overseeing the operations of the EV taxi service. The taxis will be equipped with advanced technology, including intelligent transport systems, secure payment solutions, and robust safety features.

In addition to the taxi service, Memon stressed the significance of developing a widespread EV charging network to support the smooth operation of the fleet. He described the project as a cornerstone of Sindh’s commitment to sustainable transport solutions, positioning the province as a leader in green technology across Pakistan. The initiative is expected to attract both local and international investment, helping to drive the region’s economic growth while ensuring environmental preservation.  Officials are moving forward with the necessary legal frameworks and infrastructure to ensure the success of the EV taxi service. “This is an important step in Sindh’s journey toward sustainable development,” Memon concluded, underscoring that the introduction of eco-friendly transportation will set a new benchmark for the rest of the country.
