The Sindh High Court (SHC) has taken notice of lack of action by the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) over unauthorised constructions and buildings in different areas of the city and directed the SBCA director general (DG) to submit details of funds received by the authority from the government as well as the money collected in the heads of regularisation fee of multi-storey buildings and penalty fees during the last five years.

During the hearing of a petition against unauthorised construction of multi-storey buildings in different areas of the city, a division bench of the SHC headed by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar observed that the prime duty of the SBCA was to regulate buildings and they had complete mechanism to check and stop illegal constructions. The high court observed that the SBCA had the power to lodge reports and in case there was a criminal offence, special courts were required to be established to try those offences.
