RIO DE JANEIRO – Colombian pop icon Shakira delivered a spectacular performance to an estimated two million fans at Copacabana Beach, turning the iconic shoreline into a massive open-air concert venue under the moonlit sky.
The 49-year-old singer took the stage late at night wearing Brazil’s national colours, with drones lighting up the sky to form a she-wolf — a symbol closely associated with her.
Addressing the crowd in Portuguese, she expressed her affection for Brazil and described the gathering as a powerful moment of unity through music and emotion.
According to city officials, the turnout marked one of the largest concert crowds in Rio’s history. Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere said the event created a historic moment for the city.
The beach has hosted several global music stars in recent years, including Madonna and Lady Gaga, drawing millions of fans to similar large-scale performances.

During the concert, Shakira performed some of her biggest hits, including Hips Don’t Lie, La Bicicleta, La Tortura, and Estoy Aquí, on a massive stage set up near the renowned Copacabana Palace. The show featured multiple costume changes and included collaborations with Brazilian pop star Anitta, along with appearances by legendary artists Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia.
Shakira, one of Latin music’s most successful artists with millions of records sold and numerous awards to her name, enjoys a strong fan base in Brazil. Many fans travelled long distances and even camped overnight to secure a spot near the stage.
The concert also provided a significant boost to Rio’s economy, with officials estimating an injection of over $160 million. Tourism authorities reported a sharp rise in travel demand, with airline bookings increasing by around 80% compared to last year.
Security arrangements were extensive, with thousands of personnel deployed alongside advanced surveillance systems to manage the massive crowd.
The performance was part of Shakira’s ongoing global tour, which has already set records as one of the highest-grossing tours by a Latin artist, further cementing her global appeal.
