LAHORE – The dense fog continued to blanket several districts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday.
The fog disrupted the routine life and forced the closure of major motorways as visibility dropped to dangerously low levels.
According to the National Highways and Motorway Police, the M-2 has been shut from Lahore to Kot Sarwar while the M-3 remains closed from Rajana to Darkhana.
The M-4 has also been closed from Faisalabad to Multan, and the M-5 from Multan’s Sher Shah Interchange to Zahir Pir due to near-zero visibility.
Traffic on the M-1 has been suspended from Peshawar to Rashakai, leaving commuters stranded and affecting intercity travel across the region.
In addition to the fog, central Punjab continues to battle hazardous air pollution levels.
According to data from a global environmental monitoring platform, particulate matter (PM) levels recorded at 9am were alarmingly high: Faisalabad at 814, Gujranwala at 404, Multan at 261 and Lahore at 218.
The authorities have advised citizens to limit travel, use fog lights and take precautions against poor air quality, especially for children, the elderly and individuals with respiratory issues.
