Pakistan entered September with mixed fuel-price update, as petrol becomes slightly more expensive while diesel prices see a small reduction from the first day of the new month.
The government has increased petrol by 77 paisas per litre, taking the price from Rs342.02 to Rs342.79 per litre. At the same time, diesel users have received a small reduction of Rs1.03 per litre, bringing the rate down from Rs371.44 to Rs370.41 per litre.

Petroleum Division of the Ministry of Energy issued the notification for the revised rates, which take effect from midnight.
The latest adjustment means motorists will enter the new month with petrol costing more, although diesel prices have moved in the opposite direction. The revised petroleum prices will remain applicable for September 1.
Petrol prices in Pakistan went through a volatile ride during August 2026, with motorists first receiving some relief before facing a sharp increase in the second half of the month. The month started with petrol priced at around Rs336.03 per litre. Prices then moved downward during the first half of August, eventually hitting a monthly low of Rs324.98 per litre on August 13.
The relief proved short-lived, however, as petrol prices began climbing steadily from mid-August. The price crossed the Rs330 mark on August 18 and continued rising over the following days. By August 22, petrol had reached around Rs341.59 per litre, while the price climbed further to Rs343.10 per litre on August 26, marking the highest level recorded during the month.
Prices eased slightly toward the end of August, falling to Rs342.02 per litre by August 29. The government then announced another adjustment for the start of September, increasing petrol by 77 paisas per litre to Rs342.79. The new rate takes effect from midnight.
Overall, petrol moved through a nearly Rs18-per-litre swing between its August low and monthly peak amid sharp fluctuations faced by consumers during the month.
