ISLAMABAD – Seasoned diplomat Sajjad Haider Khan formally assumes charge as new spokesperson of Pakistan’s Foreign Office, replacing Tahir Hussain Andrabi.
Outgoing spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi introduced Sajjad Khan to the media during his final press briefing before handing over the responsibilities of the high-profile post. Hailing from Gilgit-Baltistan, Sajjad Haider Khan brings extensive diplomatic experience to the position. He is currently serving as Director General South Asia and will now also lead the Foreign Office’s media engagement and communication as its spokesperson.
Khan holds a master’s degree in Political Science from the University of the Punjab, Lahore. His diplomatic career includes assignments at Pakistan’s missions in Damascus, Budapest, Berlin and Jakarta, giving him experience across several strategically important regions.
His diplomatic credentials also include a five-year stint as Pakistan’s ambassador to Belarus from 2020 to 2025, further strengthening his profile as an experienced foreign policy practitioner.
Adding another dimension to his diplomatic credentials, Khan is proficient in multiple languages. He speaks Urdu, English, Arabic and Balti, while also possessing considerable command of German, Indonesian and Russian.
Meanwhile, Tahir Hussain Andrabi is moving on to a new diplomatic assignment. During his final media briefing, he announced that he would assume charge as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva.
Andrabi expressed confidence in Khan’s abilities and hoped that the newly appointed spokesperson would lead the Foreign Office’s media wing effectively at a time when Pakistan’s foreign policy and international engagements remain under intense global scrutiny.
The transition marks another significant change in Pakistan’s diplomatic setup, with Khan’s broad experience, international postings and multilingual abilities expected to play a key role in strengthening the Foreign Office’s communication with both domestic and international media.
His appointment also comes as Pakistan continues to navigate a complex regional and global environment, making the Foreign Office spokesperson’s role increasingly crucial in presenting Islamabad’s position on major international and diplomatic developments.
