‘Safe-Houses’ to be opened for female victims: Shehla Raza



Sindh Minister for Women Development Syeda Shehla Raza has said that to address the problems of female victims of domestic violence and provide them immediate shelter and instant relief, ‘Safe-Houses’ would be opened in each district of the province

She was talking to media persons after inaugurating a Safe House near Niaz Stadium.Shehla Raza said that in each safe house, directorate and complaint center would be established to address the problems of female victims of any violence on instant basis by providing free health care and legal aid as well.

The minister said that the idea behind to set up safe house was to provide immediate shelter as earlier female victim often had to face lengthy legal process causing them more vulnerability.

She further informed that MoU had been signed between Development & Empowerment Society, Pakistan (DES) and Women Development Department, Sindh in order to provide fair and speedy solutions to the problems of the female victims.

Shehla Raza invited NGOs willing to work for the welfare of women to join hands with women Development Department.

She informed that the Sindh Government was seriously working for development of women and had allocated sufficient budget for the Women Development Department.

She said that more staff would be recruited during current year as unfortunately due to lack of human-resource many centers in the province were not working properly for last many years, “female would be recruited more as compare to men and the trainings would also be arranged for new employees so that they could work up to the expectations of the people.

Deputy Program Manager Irfan Rajput of Muslim Charity Fund, UK organization talking on the occasion said that there should be zero-tolerance against violence in any civilized society and for that he appreciated the initiatives of Women Development Department wherein his organization would provide aid and help for preventing violence against women.

Secretary Women Development Department Anjum Iqbal, Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Fuad Gaffar Soomro, Director Mahesh Kumar and Deputy Director Ashique Kalhoro were also present on the occasion
