Ruhail Mohammad Steps Into Pakistan Stock Exchange Chairmanship

KARACHI – Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited (PSX) announced on Monday that Ruhail Mohammad has been elected as Chairman of its Board of Directors, stepping in after the sudden demise of former Chairperson Dr. Shamshad Akhtar.

PSX notice confirmed that Mohammad will lead the Board for the remainder of its term, fully complying with all legal and regulatory requirements.

Ruhail holds vast experience in corporate landscape, with over 35 years of exposure in general management, strategy, financial planning, and talent development. His career spans multiple C-suite roles across diverse sectors from chemicals to energy. Currently, he serves as CEO of Lucky Electric Power Company Limited, a 660 MW independent power producer and subsidiary of Lucky Cement.

Before this, Mohammad led Hub Power Holdings Ltd., a subsidiary of HUBCO, Pakistan’s largest independent power producer, and served as CEO of Engro Fertilizers from 2012 to 2018.

An influential figure in corporate governance, he has been on the boards of Engro Corp, K-Electric, NBP Funds, the Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance, British Overseas School, KP Energy Board (PEDO), and also chaired the Pakistan Mercantile Exchange Limited.

Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, who had served as both caretaker finance minister and Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, passed away last month at the age of 70, leaving a lasting legacy.
