Ronak calls for collective efforts to revive sports landscape

Ronak Lakhani, Chairperson of Special Olympics Pakistan (SOP), has called for a united approach to reinvigorate Pakistan’s sports sector. Lakhani’s remarks came during a ceremony to honor newly elected Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Vice President Major (Retd) Majid Wasim and Associate Secretary General Tehmina Asif.

The event,  was attended by key sports figures including Softball Federation of Pakistan President Asif Azeem and Senior Vice President Dr. Farhan Essa Abdullah, highlighted the need for collective efforts to restore the country’s sports legacy.

Fatima Lakhani, the newly appointed Senior Vice President of POA, reiterated her commitment to advancing the Olympic Movement. She underscored the significance of merit-based opportunities for athletes, emphasizing that both male and female competitors should have equal access to training and development. Under the leadership of POA President Arif Saeed, she pledged to ensure transparency and foster an environment of inclusivity.

At the event, Lakhani thanked Ronak Lakhani and Asif Azeem for organizing the gathering, stressing that the POA’s focus would be on nurturing a sports ecosystem that prioritizes excellence and fair play. The attendees also discussed strategic plans for improving sports performance, with Major (Retd) Wasim revealing that President Arif Saeed had directed federations to implement measurable goals over the next 100 days and into the coming year.

Tehmina Asif highlighted her plans to raise awareness and advocate for the rights of female athletes, aiming to create platforms that would allow them to reach their full potential on the international stage. Meanwhile, Dr. Farhan Essa Abdullah emphasized the critical role of schools and colleges in discovering young talent, calling for a revival of sports activities within educational institutions.

Ronak Lakhani concluded the ceremony by calling for a unified effort from all stakeholders, stressing that only through collaboration and a cohesive policy framework could Pakistan restore its lost glory in sports. Guests were presented with souvenirs by Special Olympics Pakistan, Combaxx Sports, and the Softball Federation of Pakistan, adding a festive touch to the event.
