Administrator and Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani has said that the renovation work of Frere Hall has started. The restoration of Frere Hall in its original condition was approved by P&D in 2004. This work has been going on for last 16 years.
He expressed these views while unveiling the plaque and inaugurating the restoration and renovation of Frere Hall and Gallery Sadequain.
Additional Commissioner Karachi Dr. Waqas Roshan, Director General Parks Taha Saleem, Senior Director Culture and Sports Khurshid Shah and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion. Administrator and Commissioner Karachi said that National Heritage Restoration Specialist Kaleemullah was present to supervise all these works. Lashari has been hired while the work will be carried out in accordance with the relevant rules of Heritage Preservation, he said, adding that this is a historic site which was closed to the public for a long time and is now open to the public. Frere Hall Library has been activated and CSS classes for students are also being held. In the past, National Day celebrations of various countries including Germany and Italy were held in Frere Hall.
This series will also be resumed while Quaid-e-Azam’s birthday celebrations will be held on December 25. The Administrator and Commissioner Karachi said that in the past also this place was open for public events and many memorable events have been held here so restoration of these activities is also an important part of this project, appointed a consultant. Doing so will not only ensure the protection of this national heritage but will also enable measures to maintain the historical and cultural significance of the place, he said, adding that in view of Karachi’s cultural history, the city government has taken such steps.
Steps are being taken to restore all the historic buildings in the city and to spread awareness among the citizens about their protection. Every possible step is being taken to protect the cultural heritage all over the world. Tourism also flourishes on the surface and these places become the history and identity of the city
The Administrator Karachi was briefed on the details of the rehabilitation and renovation work of Frere Hall through digital presentation. Later, Administrator Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani along with Additional Commissioner Karachi and other officers visited Frere Hall and Gallery.
He visited various parts of Sadequain in detail and gave necessary instructions to the officers along with reviewing the work to be done.
