Relief efforts underway as death toll in Pakistan’s KP floods crosses 300

Death Toll Reaches 200 As Kp Battles Worst Floods In Years

PESHAWAR –  The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday released details of casualties and damages caused by heavy rains and flash floods over the past 48 hours, confirming that at least 307 people lost their lives.

The PDMA figures showed that the deceased include 279 men, 15 women  and 13 children  while 23 others sustained injuries — among them 17 men, four women, and two children.

The report stated that rains and floods damaged 74 houses across the province, of which 63 were partially damaged while 11 were completely destroyed. The most affected districts included Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla, and Battagram.

The provincial authority said Rs500 million had been released for the affected districts. Out of this, Rs150 million was allocated for Buner, Rs100 million each for Bajaur, Battagram, and Mansehra, while Rs50 million was earmarked for Swat.

Advisor to KP Chief Minister on Information Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif said 11 districts were hit by cloudbursts and floods, affecting a total of 3,817 people.

He confirmed that 32 people were still missing, with search and rescue operations underway.

Barrister Saif added that 545 rescue personnel along with 90 vehicles and boats were engaged in relief operations.

“The highest number of casualties occurred in Buner, where 159 people died, but 100 others were rescued alive. In Bajaur, 20 people lost their lives while one person remains missing.

In Battagram, 11 bodies have been recovered while 10 individuals are still unaccounted for,” he added.

Buner district and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa faced chaotic scenes as clouburst and torrential rains turned picturesque valleys into raging rivers.

In a matter of hours, cloudbursts and flash floods tore through villages, crushing homes, sweeping away bridges, and leaving families shattered.

Buner district became epicenter of tragedy as over 200 lost their lives, including women clutching their children as torrents engulfed their homes. Entire communities vanished beneath walls of water, with survivors desperately searching for missing loved ones.

In Bajaur, the floodwaters showed no mercy, erasing roads and burying villages under debris. Battagram and Mansehra were slammed by late-night cloudbursts, claiming more lives and wiping out livestock in minutes.

Across Gilgit and Azad Kashmir, the death toll climbed further as whole families wiped out as swollen streams turned into deadly torrents. Schools are shut, roads are gone, and the mountains echo with cries for help.

Rescue teams battle against time and terrain, helicopters slicing through stormy skies, as hopes of finding survivors fade with each passing hour. Officials fear the toll could rise sharply as isolated villages are reached.

This is not just a disaster. This is a nightmare that has drowned an entire region in grief.
