Rawalpindi experiences coldest day as mercury falls to 05°C

Rawalpindi experienced the coldest day of this winter season with mercury falling to 05°C on Tuesday.

Cold and dry weather will likely persist in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and most parts of Pakistan on Tuesday night, Wednesday and Thursday. Smog/fog will likely continue in the plains of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. A shallow trough of a westerly wave will likely approach the northwestern parts tonight.

Under these conditions, mainly cold and dry weather will likely persist in the twin cities and most parts of Pakistan on Tuesday night and the next two days. Freezing weather will prevail in hilly areas during morning/night hours. Smog with fog in patches during night/morning hours is likely to persist over the plain areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 00°C to 02°C on Wednesday and Thursday.

Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 03°C to 05°C on Wednesday and Thursday.

Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in the twin cities and most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. Very cold weather prevailed in hilly areas. Smog/fog persisted in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh.

Leh remained the coldest place in the country, where the temperature dropped 09°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Skardu was recorded at -06°C, in Bagrote at -04°C, and in Gupis and Gilgit at -03°C.

In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 02°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 85 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 05°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 73 per cent.
