A large number of poets, writers, colleagues, fans and friends of Urdu literature attended Rasheed Amjad’s funeral prayer on Friday and paid the departed soul their last respects.
March 5 also happened to be the 81st birthday of the departing soul (Born: March 5, 1940 in Srinagar).
Amjad was laid to rest for eternal sleep in Rawalpindi’s Gulistan Colony’s graveyard close to his house.
While talking to Pakistan Observer his younger son Hussain Rasheed said his father died of pulmonary cardiac arrest.
It happened all of a sudden. He was taken to the hospital but before he was put on vent, he had breathed his last.
Rasheed lived quite a productive life spanning over five decades of literary contributions writing hundreds of stories and publishing dozens of books.
His funeral prayers were attended by eminent men of letters, intellectuals including former Chairman of the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) Iftikhar Arif, incumbent chairman Dr Yousuf Khushk, Director PAL Lahore, Muhammad Asim Butt, writer Muhammad Hameed Shahid, poet Hassan Abbas Raza, Mehboob Zafar, fiction writer Akhtar Raza Saleemi, poet Khaleequr Rehman, Naseer Ahmed Nassir and others.
His Rasm-e-Qul will be held on Sunday (tomorrow) after Asar prayers at his residence 52-C, Lane no. 7-A Gulistan Colony Rawalpindi.
