The Punjab government has approved the recruitment of 3,565 traffic assistants and constables to address the shortage of personnel in the police force.
According to a government notification, additional personnel will be recruited to overcome the shortage in the Punjab Police. The recruitment was approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by the Punjab chief minister.
The notification states that 50% of the approved quota for traffic assistants and constables will be filled in the first phase, while the remaining 50% will be recruited during the third quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year.
In the first phase, 1,782 constables will be recruited in the General Executive Cadre. The government notification said the recruitment process for traffic assistants and constables would begin shortly.
Under the Police Rules, one police official is assigned to provide security for 450 people. In view of this requirement and the shortage of personnel, the government decided to make fresh recruitments to meet the police force’s staffing needs.
