LAHORE – Punjab has decided to introduce a separate 100-mark subject on Global Citizenship for school students.
A proposal is being considered to make it part of the curriculum from the next academic year in collaboration with UNICEF.
Reports said the proposed subject is likely to be introduced for students from Grade 4 to Grade 8. It will focus on international citizenship, students’ rights and responsibilities at the global level, and the importance of becoming responsible citizens.
The Punjab Examination Commission (PEC) has begun consultations with UNICEF regarding the introduction of the subject.
UNICEF is also expected to provide funding for the printing of textbooks and other educational materials related to the course.
According to the Education Department, the subject is intended to broaden students’ understanding of the global community and help them better understand their responsibilities and role at the international level.
Officials believed the proposed course will help students develop a better understanding of what it means to be a global citizen and prepare them to meet the responsibilities associated with global citizenship.
