LAHORE – The Punjab government has been asked to allocate Rs12.5 billion for holding local government elections in the province.
The sources in the Punjab Assembly said the provincial Local Government Department has sought the funds from the Punjab government to meet expenses related to the local elections.
The request for approval of the required funds is expected to be presented before the Punjab Cabinet for consideration.
According to Punjab Assembly sources, an important cabinet meeting has been convened for today, and several key agenda items have been scheduled for discussion.
The meeting is also expected to consider the funding request for the proposed local government elections.
According to sources in the Local Government Department, administrative preparations for local government elections in Punjab have been completed.
The delimitation of union councils for the local government elections has also been completed, while the training of relevant officials for conducting the elections has concluded.
The summary submitted by the Punjab Local Government Department seeking funds for the elections has been included in the agenda of the provincial cabinet meeting.
