Punjab Traffic Police has proposed major changes to simplify the process of getting driving licences for foreigners, overseas Pakistanis and residents of other provinces.
According to traffic authorities, a proposal has been prepared to simplify the procedure for obtaining driving licences for overseas Pakistanis, foreign nationals, and individuals from other provinces.
Traffic officials said that people in these categories were previously required to obtain a learner’s licence before applying for a driving licence. Under the proposed new procedure, however, they would no longer need to obtain a learner’s licence.
Instead, eligible applicants would be able to present their existing driving licence and appear directly for a driving test. Those who pass the test would be issued a driving licence immediately.
Officials said foreign nationals accustomed to left-hand-drive vehicles could also benefit from the proposed facility.
DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazir has forwarded a summary on the matter to the Inspector General of Punjab Police. Once approved, the new policy will be implemented across Punjab.
