LAHORE – Punjab government has so far failed to ensure provision of free medicines to 100 per cent patients at major hospitals.
According to a report of Punjab Health Department, free medicines were provided to less than 75 per cent patients at 27 major hospitals in the province.
At Lahore’s nine major hospitals, half of the visiting patients got access to free medicines. Free medicines were provided to 39 per cent patients at Lahore’s Dental Hospital, 45 per cent at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, 54 per cent at Mayo Hospital, and 51 per cent at Lahore General Hospital.
The situation was similar at hospitals in other cities. Availability of free medicines was 31 per cent at Nishter Dental Hospital Mltan, 50 per cent at Nishter Hospital Multan, 43 per cent at Sahiwal Teaching Hospital and THQ Hospital Zafarwal, and 48 per cent at Gujranwala Hospital.
