LAHORE – The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has imposed a ban on the issuance of handwritten receipts at restaurants, hotels, coffee shops and marriage halls across the province as it has intensified measures to curb tax evasion.
PRA Chairman Muazzam Iqbal issued directives to commissioners in all districts in this regard.
Under the new directives, hotels, restaurants, coffee shops and marriage halls are required to issue receipts through the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (EIMS).
It warned that businesses that fail to issue receipts through EIMS may face fines ranging from Rs400,000 to Rs1 million. In case of repeated violations, the authorities may also seal a business for up to one month.
The PRA has further warned of strict legal action in cases involving interference in official duties, manipulation of sales records or failure to provide required records.
The notification also prohibited businesses from issuing kitchen order slips, unpaid bills or similar documents as receipts to customers. Instead, businesses must provide customers with a receipt carrying the establishment’s name, address, receipt number and the PRA’s QR code.
According to PRA officials, the measure aims to improve transparency in tax collection, digitize sales records and prevent tax evasion across the province.
