MUZAFFARABAD – The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Monday announced an extension in summer vacations for educational institutions in the summer zone by another four days.
The secretary elementary and secondary education has issued a notification in this regard, stating that all educational institutions falling under the summer zone across AJK will remain closed from Monday, August 10, through Thursday, August 13, 2026.
The extension applies to both government and private educational institutions, bringing an end to uncertainty among students, parents and teachers regarding the reopening of schools.
Under the revised schedule, educational institutions will remain closed until August 13. The Education Department is expected to issue further instructions regarding the resumption of academic activities.
The department has advised parents and students to follow official notifications and announcements for timely information about the reopening of educational institutions.
When Will School Reopen?
The extended closure will also be followed by the public holiday on August 14, observed on the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day. Weekly holidays on Saturday and Sunday will follow.
As a result, the holiday period could continue until August 17 under the current schedule. However, the final decision regarding the reopening of educational institutions after August 13 will depend on further instructions from the Education Department.
The government has also cited the prevailing situation in parts of AJK as an important consideration. Elections are being held on August 10 in Bagh and Haveli districts of the Poonch Division, while a protest sit-in in Rawalakot has also contributed to security concerns.
