LAHORE – Educational institutions in areas surrounding Adiala Jail Road in Rawalpindi have been closed for one day, authorties announced late Monday.
The local administration announced closure of both government and private schools due to a potentially volatile law and order situation. The tension stems from threat by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who has reportedly vowed to come with his supporters to protest and meet the founder of PTI, currently serving a sentence in Adiala Jail.
Pindi police made special arrangements to prevent any public gatherings on the road. Markets surrounding Adiala Jail Road, including the bustling Gorakhpur market, will remain shut today, though grocery stores in smaller lanes will continue operating to provide essential supplies.
Security has been beefed up to unprecedented levels: eight or more police pickets have been deployed at key points including the Gorakhpur Police Check Post, Daigel Naka, Chakri Interchange, and multiple other locations along Adiala Jail Road. No one can proceed beyond these points without thorough verification, and even local residents are facing intense scrutiny.
The police force, deployed in large numbers, is also on high alert for any possible terrorist activity, and all vehicles entering Adiala Road are subject to complete inspection.
Authorities are urging residents to remain calm but vigilant as the situation develops, signaling one of the most intense security mobilizations in recent times in Rawalpindi.
