LAHORE – New details have emerged in the investigation into the killing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Abdullah Tahir, with investigators uncovering an alleged honey-trap operation used to track the victim’s movements.
The investigative sources said that the suspects allegedly used a 22-year-old woman to honey-trap Abdullah Tahir’s driver, Asghar, in an attempt to obtain information about the PTI leader’s whereabouts.
Police investigators said the woman, who was allegedly associated with the suspects, first contacted Asghar through TikTok around two months before Abdullah Tahir was killed.
Investigators believe the woman developed contact with the driver and subsequently obtained information about Abdullah Tahir’s movements and routine.
Sources said that on the day of the killing, the woman allegedly made a video call with Asghar after he reached the clinic where Abdullah Tahir was present.
During the video call, the suspects allegedly confirmed that Abdullah Tahir was inside the clinic and that he was not accompanied by security guards.
Investigators said the alleged attackers had already reached Gujranwala Road by that time. The suspects also allegedly used a drone camera to monitor and conduct reconnaissance of the victim before the attack.
The Crime Control Department (CCD) police questioned Abdullah Tahir’s driver as part of the investigation. During questioning, the driver reportedly confirmed that he had been honey-trapped.
Police are continuing to investigate the case and are examining the suspected role of other individuals involved in tracking the victim’s movements and facilitating the attack.
However, investigators have so far been unable to arrest the alleged main shooter, identified as Arsalan.
The police said further investigation is underway to determine the full network behind the murder, including those who allegedly arranged the honey trap, monitored Abdullah Tahir and provided information to the attackers before the shooting.
