Provincial Minister sees LB elections next year in Punjab

Local Government Minister, Mian Mahmood Al-Rasheed hinted at holding local body elections in March and April next year. He said, “We are ready for the elections and Election Commission should prepare itself”.

He was of the view that the Prime Minister has set a target for the Punjab government to hold the next local body elections soon.

Talking to media, Local Government Minister said that Punjab government is ready to hold local body elections in March and April next year.

Legislation in this regard will be completed soon. He said that whatever the Election Commission wants to prepare, we are fully prepared.

The LG minister said that local body elections in Punjab would be held in two phases. In the first phase, Village Council and Neighborhood Council elections will be held on a non-partisan basis.

In the second phase, elections for tehsil councils and metropolitan mayors will be held on a party basis.
