A protest demonstration was held in Jammu, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, against the decision of the occupation administration to install prepaid smart meters

According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstration against the installation of the smart power meters was held in the Karan Bagh area of Jammu.

The authorities have said that of the total 20 lakh smart meters, over five lakh have been installed, so far, in Jammu and Kashmir.

The vehicular movement in several areas, including RS Pura, Satwari and Chatha, remained blocked for hours due to the demonstration. Protesters raised slogans against the authorities over smart meters and demanded their installation be stopped.

Surjit Singh, a protester, said there had been complaints of inflated bills where smart meters were installed. “We want the administration to stop the installation as we do not want to give excessive charges for electricity amid frequent outages,” he added.—KMS
