Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, has announced that officers will face disciplinary action if they fail to address serious crime complaints, including theft, robbery, murder, kidnapping, and other grave offenses. This includes the dismissal of police officers who show negligence or delay in registering First Information Reports (FIRs), obstruct investigations, or provide protection to criminal elements.
Addressing a key meeting at the Central Police Office, IG Sindh emphasized that FIRs must be promptly registered for complaints related to motorbike and car thefts, robberies, murders, and abductions, among other serious offenses. He instructed that these complaints should not be delayed under any circumstances, as they form the cornerstone of the investigation process. IG Sindh has also set clear directives for investigating officers.
Any failure to act on complaints backed by strong evidence or engaging in delaying tactics will result in severe consequences, including the dismissal of the concerned SHO (Station House Officer) and SI (Sub-Inspector). Officers found guilty of harassment or non-cooperation with the complainants will also face legal action in line with police regulations.
Moreover, the IG directed the relevant police officers to conduct thorough inquiries into any complaints related to corruption, organized crime, abuse of power, and mafia protection, with the Special Branch being tasked with the responsibility of investigating such allegations. “Public complaints regarding the non-registration of cases will be reviewed by the Complaint Cell, which will demand an explanation from the concerned SSP (Senior Superintendent of Police),” stated IG Sindh in the meeting.
He reiterated the importance of establishing a transparent and effective grievance redressal system, aimed at enhancing public trust and improving police accountability. IG Sindh emphased on improving the complaints system aims to create a centralized and more efficient response mechanism that addresses public grievances swiftly and effectively. He also instructed all District Police Chiefs and Unit In-Charges to ensure that complaints are not only heard but resolved at the local level, ensuring that the public can register FIRs free of charge and with ease.
