ISLAMABAD – The federal government has decided to keep the prices of petrol and high speed diesel unchanged for the next three days, providing a relief to masses amid rising inflation.
The price of petrol will remain unchanged at Rs325.43 per litre, while diesel will continue to be sold at Rs383.95 per litre through Monday.
On Thursday, Pakistanis received unexpected ‘Azadi Gift’ on eve of Independence Day, with petrol prices going up by 45 paisa per litre, pushing the new rate to Rs325.43 per litre.
The government had also increased the price of high-speed diesel by Rs1.16 per litre to Rs383.95.
A day earlier, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved an increase of Rs1.34 per litre in the dealers’ margin on petrol and diesel.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the ECC chaired by Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb.
Following the increase, the dealers’ margin on both petrol and diesel has risen from Rs8.64 to Rs9.98 per litre.
Nauman Butt, Vice Chairman of the All Pakistan Petrol Pumps Owners Association, welcomed the decision and thanked the Prime Minister and Petroleum Minister.
He said the government had fulfilled the dealers’ long-standing demand by increasing the margin by Rs1.34 per litre.
