KARACHI – Pakistanis have been hit with another fuel price shock as petrol and high-speed diesel become more expensive yet again, sending pump prices to fresh highs.
The latest increase took effect on September 10, with petrol going up by Rs3.40 per litre and high-speed diesel jumping by Rs6.72 per litre. Petrol will now cost Rs367.75 per litre, while high-speed diesel has reached Rs392.67 per litre.
According to Petroleum Division data, petrol has become Rs21.88 per litre more expensive in just three days, while diesel has jumped by Rs14.62 per litre over the same period.
Motorists were paying Rs345.87 for a litre of petrol. Three days later, that same litre costs Rs367.75.
Diesel has followed similar trajectory. Its price stood at Rs378.05 per litre on September 7 before climbing to Rs392.67, adding Rs14.62 to the cost of every litre. The latest hike comes just days after consumers were already confronted with a sharp increase, piling another layer of pressure on motorists and businesses.
For millions of petrol users, the immediate impact will be felt every time they visit a filling station. But the diesel increase could have an even wider ripple effect as higher fuel costs raise expenses for freight operators, logistics companies and public transport.
