Petrol prices have barely given Pakistanis breather this week. With another increase announced for September 4, the pump price has climbed to Rs349 per litre in the fourth hike this week, bringing fresh pressure on motorists and household budgets.
Pakistan’s motorists have been hit by another increase in fuel prices, with petrol and High-Speed Diesel (HSD) becoming more expensive for the second consecutive day. Consumers will now have to pay Rs349 per litre for petrol, while the price of High-Speed Diesel has reached Rs374.31 per litre.
According to the latest revision, petrol has become Rs2.84 per litre more expensive, rising from Rs346.16 to Rs349.00. Diesel has also seen an increase of Rs2.28 per litre, taking its price from Rs372.03 to Rs374.31.

The new prices will be applicable from Friday, September 4, following a notification from the Petroleum Division after the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) completed its latest review.
The latest increase is linked mainly to movements in the international oil market.
Pakistan regularly imports a substantial portion of its petroleum requirements, which means changes in global crude prices can directly influence domestic fuel rates. Other costs included in the country’s petroleum pricing formula are also taken into account when determining local prices.
Global oil markets have recently faced renewed pressure because of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Investors and markets are concerned that a further escalation could disrupt crude supplies and push international prices even higher.
On Thursday, Brent crude was trading around $97.29 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) stood near $93.04 per barrel.
