ISLAMABAD – Pakistani consumers got a microdose of relief as the government announced a fresh reduction in petroleum prices, marking the second consecutive price cut in just 24 hours.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol has been reduced by Rs. 2.20 per litre, bringing the new rate down to Rs. 327.62 per litre, effective from August 8. The government has also lowered the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs. 1.50 per litre, taking the new rate to Rs. 380.86 per litre.
The latest notification comes just a day after another reduction in fuel prices, when the government had announced a Rs. 3.19 per litre cut in petrol and a Rs. 1.50 per litre decrease in diesel prices.
With back-to-back revisions, motorists and transporters have witnessed a cumulative reduction of Rs. 5.39 per litre in petrol and Rs. 3.00 per litre in diesel over two consecutive announcements.
The revised fuel prices are expected to provide some relief to consumers, particularly amid persistently high transportation and living costs, although their broader impact on inflation and commodity prices remains to be seen.
