The relief at the pump comes on the back of a sharp correction in international crude oil prices. Global benchmark Brent crude dropped nearly 5%, slipping below the $80-per-barrel mark for the first time in three weeks. Meanwhile, U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude also lost more than 5%, falling to around $76 per barrel.
The decline in oil prices has been fueled by growing optimism that the Strait of Hormuz, could soon see the restoration of normal commercial traffic. Positive signals from senior U.S. officials regarding diplomatic efforts to reopen the strategic waterway have eased fears of supply disruptions, boosting confidence across global energy markets.
