ISLAMABAD – The government has delivered another petrol bombshell, raising the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel by up to Rs6.47 per litre, adding to the financial pressure on already cash-strapped consumers.
According to notification issued by the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) on August 17, 2026, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products under the federal government’s revised petroleum pricing mechanism.
Effective August 18, 2026, the price of petrol (Motor Spirit) has been increased by Rs5.77 per litre, from Rs325.43 to Rs331.20.
The price of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) has witnessed an even sharper increase of Rs6.47 per litre, rising from Rs383.95 to Rs390.42.

The latest increase is set to hit motorists and transporters directly, while higher diesel prices could also put additional pressure on freight costs, public transport fares and prices of everyday goods.
With the new rates taking effect from August 18, consumers will now have to pay more than Rs331 per litre for petrol and over Rs390 per litre for diesel.
The latest hike comes as another blow to household budgets, with any increase in fuel prices likely to ripple through transportation and the broader cost of living.
