ISLAMABAD – Another shock for Pakistanis as the government announced yet another increase in petrol and diesel prices, pushing petrol to nearly Rs371 per litre and diesel to almost Rs400 per litre.
The latest hike, announced by the Ministry of Energy are for September 11. Under the revised petroleum pricing mechanism, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has increased the ex-depot price of petrol by Rs3.05 per litre, while diesel has become Rs5.37 per litre more expensive.
The new prices are Petrol: Rs370.80 per litre, up from Rs367.75. High-Speed Diesel: Rs398.04 per litre, up from Rs392.67.

The latest increase comes after an already dramatic surge in fuel prices this week, putting further pressure on motorists, transporters and households already grappling with rising costs.
Petrol prices have jumped by a staggering Rs21.88 per litre in only three days. On September 7, petrol was selling at Rs345.87 per litre. By September 10, the price had climbed to Rs367.75. With Thursday’s latest increase, consumers will now pay Rs370.80 per litre from September 11.
Diesel has followed a similar trajectory. Its price has risen by Rs14.62 per litre since September 7, when it stood at Rs378.05. It subsequently reached Rs392.67, before the latest hike pushed it to Rs398.04 per litre.
The price shock becomes even more striking when the various charges built into the fuel price are taken into account. According to the figures provided, Rs131.60 per litre of petrol is being collected through levies, taxes and margins. For diesel, Rs122.55 per litre is being charged through these components above its actual underlying cost.
The latest domestic increase comes as international crude oil prices remain above the $105-a-barrel mark, adding to pressure on Pakistan’s petroleum prices.
Escalating Iran-US tensions and attacks affecting commercial shipping have heightened fears of prolonged disruptions to global oil supplies. Concerns over the security of shipping routes and the continuity of oil supplies have helped keep international crude prices elevated.
