PESHAWAR – Torrential rains and gusty winds are predicted in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday night, Friday and Saturday.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), strong monsoon currents from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal penetrate upper/central parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave affects upper parts of the country.

Under these conditions, rains of varying intensities are predicted in Balakot, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Malakand, Swat, Shangla, Batagram, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Kohat, Hangu, Kark, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber, Bajaur and Waziristan on Thursday night and the next two days.

Torrential rains may cause flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Galyat, Manshera, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Dir and Swat from 05th to 07th July. Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in Peshawar. Landslides may disrupt traffic in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Peshawar’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 38-40°C on Friday and 37-39°C on Saturday.

Meanwhile, scattered rain-wind/thundershowers occurred in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours. Hot and humid weather prevailed elsewhere in the province.

Rainfall (mm): Lower Dir 34, Mardan 05

Bannu remained the hottest place in the province where the maximum temperature was recorded at 43°C. Maximum temperature in Dera Ismail Khan was recorded at 41°C.

In Peshawar, maximum temperature was recorded at 39°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 57 per cent.

Nearly normal rains, warmer nights expected in Pakistan during July 2024
