PESHAWAR – The Peshawar High Court on Monday barred the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from arresting Muzammil Khan, a suspect named in the Kohistan scandal, while hearing his petition challenging NAB notices issued to him.
A PHC division bench comprising Justice Mohammad Naeem Anwar and Justice Babar Sattar heard the case related to Kohistan scandal.
During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Ashfaq Ahmad Daudzai, told the court that his client had been nominated as a suspect in the Kohistan scandal and that his father had also been arrested in connection with the case.
The lawyer said the petitioner’s father was subsequently granted bail by the Peshawar High Court. He argued that despite the father’s alleged involvement in the case and his release on bail, NAB had now begun issuing notices to his son.
NAB Special Prosecutor Arbab Kaleemullah informed the court that the petitioner had previously been served a notice but failed to appear before the bureau. He said a fresh notice was therefore issued to the petitioner.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the high court directed Muzammil Khan to join the NAB inquiry and fully cooperate with the investigation.
The court ordered NAB not to arrest the petitioner and disposed of the petition.
The ruling provides temporary protection from arrest to the petitioner while requiring him to appear before NAB and cooperate with the ongoing inquiry.
