ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and the United States on Tuesday agreed to accelerate the finalisation of a bilateral trade agreement aimed at strengthening economic and investment ties between the two countries.

The understanding was reached during a virtual meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb and US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, both sides exchanged views on tariff-related matters and discussed ways to enhance trade, investment, and broader economic cooperation.

The statement said that both countries reaffirmed their commitment to continue talks and indicated that more detailed technical-level discussions are expected to take place in the near future.

Meanwhile, speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, Finance Minister Aurangzeb expressed optimism about the future of Pakistan’s export sector. He said that the country’s export industries are on a path of improvement and will continue to grow in the coming months.

Highlighting the government’s economic priorities, the minister said reforms are underway in the tax regime, energy sector, and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) to facilitate industrial development and boost exports.
