Pakistan is set to receive LNG cargoes after one Qatari vessel crossed the Strait of Hormuz, with another shipment expected to pass through the strategic waterway soon.
According to media reports, the LNG carrier Al Marrouna crossed the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week and is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan by Thursday.
A second vessel carrying Qatari LNG is also expected to transit the waterway in the coming days as it makes its way to Pakistan. The arrivals could provide some relief to Pakistan’s LNG supply situation by reducing the need to purchase costly cargoes from the spot market.
Pakistan’s LNG procurement has become increasingly difficult amid tight global supplies, elevated spot prices and disruptions affecting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. On Tuesday, Pakistan failed to secure a September LNG cargo after no supplier submitted an offer in its tender.
Pakistan relies heavily on long-term LNG agreements with Qatar to maintain a dependable gas supply at comparatively stable prices. However, renewed tensions in the Strait of Hormuz disrupted those arrangements, including the cancellation of a Qatari LNG cargo scheduled for July 2026.
Qatar subsequently invoked force majeure, further complicating Pakistan’s LNG imports and forcing authorities to explore emergency purchases, alternative fuels and potentially more expensive spot-market cargoes.
