ISLAMABAD – Pakistan is reportedly poised to host next round of high-stakes negotiations between US and Iran on July 11 in a major diplomatic development in the region.
A report shared by Al Arabiya said the upcoming talks are expected to focus on three critical issues: US sanctions on Iran, Tehran’s frozen financial assets, and the future of its nuclear program.
The report further stated that Iran’s delegation for the negotiations has yet to be finalized. Its composition is expected to be determined after the conclusion of the funeral ceremonies for Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
If confirmed, the meeting would represent a major diplomatic engagement at a time of heightened regional tensions, with the outcome of the discussions likely to be closely watched by the international community.
Pakistan emerged as peace broker facilitator in US-Iran diplomacy, leveraging its diplomatic ties with both countries to help keep dialogue alive amid heightened regional tensions.
In recent months, Islamabad supported mediation efforts alongside Qatar, encouraging negotiations on issues including sanctions relief, maritime security, Iran’s frozen assets, and its nuclear program.
Pakistani leaders repeatedly stressed that diplomacy remains the only viable path to preventing a broader regional conflict, while positioning the country as a neutral venue for dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
Islamabad assumed key diplomatic role after facilitating the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), an agreement reached in June that established a framework for continued engagement between the United States and Iran following a ceasefire. The accord outlined a roadmap for negotiations covering sanctions relief, the release of Iran’s frozen assets, maritime security, and Tehran’s nuclear program, while setting a 60-day timeline to pursue a broader agreement.
By mediating the process, Pakistan strengthened its position as a neutral platform for dialogue between Washington and Tehran. The reported July 11 negotiations are expected to advance discussions under the framework of the Islamabad MoU.
