ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan reiterated that Pakistan can play a role in reducing tension between China and the United States, the two world powers, rather than joining any political bloc.

The strained relationship between the two largest economies of the world could brew another ‘Cold War’ in the country, he warned, adding that Pakistan should make efforts to stop it.

The premier offered his good offices to resolve issues between the US and China as major Western countries joining the US-led bloc in boycotting the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022.

He said that the world faced great losses due to Cold War between the US and the then Soviet Union, adding that nations should avoid joining the potentially new one.

PM Imran Khan said, “We should make efforts to unite the people”.

He said that the major issues of the region, including Afghanistan and Kashmir, can only be resolved through dialogue as wars did not yield any positive outcome.

He urged the world leaders to play their role in averting the impending humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan as 40 million Afghan people are on the brink of starvation amid winter season.

The premier said Pakistan tried its best to develop peace with India since he assumed the office in 2018 but unfortunately Modi-led Indian regime took every initiative as weakness. He regretted that the Hindutva led BJP regime could cause instability in the region.

“Under our geo-economics approach, Pakistan wants to enhance the connectivity for increasing trade with regional countries,” he said, adding that Pakistan taking benefits from CPEC.

Imran Khan said climate change is another challenge that requires a collective approach to be resolved on a priority basis. He said that Pakistan has launched Ten-Billion Tree Tsunami program to deal with it.
