ISLAMABAD – The name of Pakistan’s first-ever Lunar Rover, which is set to land on the Moon aboard China’s Chang’e-8 mission, will be announced at a ceremony to be held at the headquarters of the
Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) on Thursday has named the Pakistan’s first-ever Lunar Rover as Jinnah-I.
The SUPARCO chairman revealed the name during a ceremony. It is recalled that the Commission had earlier launched a public naming competition inviting citizens to propose a unique and meaningful name for the country’s first Lunar Rover. The initiative attracted around 4,000 entries from across the country.
Following the evaluation process, nine shortlisted participants had suggested the name that has now been finalized for Pakistan’s Lunar Rover.
The final name was selected through balloting among the nine shortlisted participants.
The SUPARCO said the Pakistan’s first Lunar Rover is planned to be deployed on the Moon as part of China’s Chang’e-8 mission in 2028, marking a significant milestone in Pakistan’s growing participation in lunar exploration and space science.
