ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and India have exchanged lists of nuclear facilities and prisoners, the officials confirmed on Thursday.
During a weekly press briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said that at the start of the New Year, the two countries exchanged prisoners’ lists. Pakistan shared the list of 257 Indian prisoners held in the country, while the Indian Ministry of External Affairs provided its list to a representative of the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi.
Andrabi added that the exchange of lists of nuclear facilities between Pakistan and India also took place on January 1. Both countries handed over the details of their respective nuclear installations and related facilities to each other.
Diplomatic sources noted that the agreement on the exchange of nuclear facilities was signed by Pakistan and India on December 31, 1988, under which both countries exchange these lists annually on January 1.
The spokesperson further said that Pakistan welcomes regional efforts to stabilize the situation in Yemen and supports a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Pakistan also reiterated its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia.
He added that Pakistan strongly rejects Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as an independent country and continues to support Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
