DHAKA – Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with Bangladesh Interior Minister Salahuddin Ahmed in Dhaka, where both sides agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas of internal security, counter-narcotics operations and law enforcement training.
During the meeting, both ministers agreed to establish a secretary-level Joint Working Group between the interior ministries of the two countries to institutionalise coordination on key security matters.
On the occasion, Pakistan and Bangladesh also signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in combating drug trafficking and substance abuse. Under the agreement, both countries will work closely to curb the illegal movement, smuggling, and distribution of narcotics.
The MoU outlines joint efforts to dismantle drug supply networks, improve intelligence sharing on traffickers, and develop coordinated strategies to tackle the growing challenge of drug abuse in society. It also includes provisions for collaboration in training law enforcement personnel, sharing modern technologies, and adopting best practices in drug prevention.
Federal Minister Mohsin Naqvi signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of Pakistan, while the Bangladesh Interior Minister signed on behalf of his country.
During the meeting, Mohsin Naqvi also offered Pakistan’s full support for Bangladesh’s Safe City project, stating that Islamabad would assist Dhaka in every possible way in developing modern urban surveillance and security systems.
Both sides agreed to expand cooperation in internal security, civil armed forces training, counterterrorism, cybercrime prevention, organised crime control, and financial fraud detection. Discussions were also held on strengthening collaboration between police academies and launching officer training exchange programmes.
The two ministers exchanged views on regional security challenges and reaffirmed their commitment to joint efforts against terrorism and human trafficking.
Mohsin Naqvi also extended an invitation to his Bangladeshi counterpart to visit Pakistan to further deepen bilateral engagement.
Senior officials including Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, Cabinet Secretary Naim Al Ghani, Interior Secretary Manzur Chowdhury, and Pakistan High Commissioner in Bangladesh Imran Haider were also present during the meeting.
