The Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad hosted a vibrant diplomatic reception on Tuesday to commemorate the 55th Independence and National Day of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, drawing a large and diverse gathering of dignitaries, diplomats, and members of civil society.
Held at the Serena Hotel, the reception was led by Bangladesh High Commissioner Md. Iqbal Hossain Khan, who, along with Defence Attaché Brigadier General Abu Rubel Md Shahabuddin, Consular Sardar Mohammed Nomanuzzaman, and other mission officials, warmly welcomed the guests.
Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain attended the ceremony as the chief guest, while Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Parliamentary Secretary for Federal Education and Professional Training, Rabia Naseem Farooqi, federal ministers, parliamentarians, and members of the diplomatic corps were also present.
Representatives of international organisations, senior civil and military officials, business leaders, journalists, and members of the Bangladeshi community—including students and entrepreneurs—added to the significance of the occasion.
The event commenced with the national anthems of Bangladesh and Pakistan, symbolizing mutual respect and longstanding ties between the two countries.
In his remarks, Rana Tanveer Hussain extended warm felicitations to the government and people of Bangladesh, praising the country’s remarkable socio-economic progress. He emphasized the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations to unlock shared opportunities and mutual benefits.
Addressing the gathering, High Commissioner Md. Iqbal Hossain Khan highlighted the shared aspirations of both nations to enhance cooperation and regional connectivity. He underscored Bangladesh’s commitment to expanding collaboration across key sectors, including trade, air and maritime links, education, tourism, culture, healthcare, agriculture, industry, and energy. Pakistan and Bangladesh are facing similar challenges and I am sure both the countries by working together will not only overcome those challenges but also charter a shared path of peace, progress and prosperity for the people of the two countries, he said. He also referred to recent high-profile visits by both sides adding respect, trust and forward-looking approach.
Reaffirming Bangladesh’s broader foreign policy objectives, the High Commissioner noted that his country remained focused on sustainable development and safeguarding national interests through stronger partnerships with friendly nations.
He also sought Pakistan’s support for Bangladesh’s candidature for the presidency of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The evening reflected Bangladesh’s rich heritage, fostering deeper people-to-people connections adding a festive touch to the reception. The ceremony concluded with renewed pledges from both sides to deepen cooperation, promote regional peace and stability, and work collectively towards shared prosperity, underscoring the enduring friendship between Bangladesh and Pakistan.
