ISLAMABAD – Pakistan on Saturday reiterated its support for efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in Yemen, saying it is closely monitoring the evolving situation in the country.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said Pakistan is keeping a close watch on developments in Yemen and supports Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic efforts for peace. The spokesperson expressed hope that these diplomatic initiatives would lead to the establishment of lasting peace in the war-torn country.
The Foreign Office also appreciated the role of the United Arab Emirates in promoting stability in Yemen and emphasized the need to respect Yemen’s territorial integrity.
According to the statement, Pakistan hopes that all parties will refrain from any unilateral actions that could further escalate tensions. It urged the concerned sides to reach a political settlement through dialogue and mutual understanding.
It may be mentioned here that tensions continue between Yemen’s former president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi and armed groups of the Southern Transitional Council in southern Yemen. Clashes between the two sides have been reported intermittently.
The conflict initially erupted in the port city of Aden several years ago and later spread to the island of Socotra and other regions. The violence has resulted in the deaths and injuries of hundreds of people, further worsening the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
