Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Abbas achieved a historic milestone during the first Test against West Indies, surpassing former captain Imran Khan’s record for the best bowling average among Pakistani fast bowlers in Test cricket.
Playing at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Abbas delivered an impressive performance on the third day of the match. After taking three wickets in the first innings, the right-arm pacer continued his strong form in the second innings by making an early impact.
In his third over of the second innings, Abbas dismissed Brandon King and Keacy Carty, before later removing Justin Greaves. His three wickets in the innings improved his overall Test bowling average to 22.69.
With this achievement, Abbas moved ahead of Imran Khan, whose Test bowling average stood at 22.81. He has now become the Pakistani fast bowler with the best bowling average in Test cricket among players with significant wicket records.
Imran Khan claimed 362 wickets in 88 Test matches during his career, while Mohammad Abbas, who made his Test debut against West Indies in 2017, has taken 116 wickets in 30 matches so far.
The list of Pakistan’s best Test bowling averages among fast bowlers with at least 100 wickets now places Mohammad Abbas at the top with an average of 22.69, followed by Imran Khan at 22.81 and Waqar Younis at 23.56.
Abbas also became the sixth Pakistani fast bowler to complete 100 Test wickets outside Pakistan. The group includes legendary names such as Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Imran han, Mohammad Amir, and Umar Gul. Among these bowlers, Abbas has the best bowling average.
The first Test between Pakistan and West Indies has entered a crucial stage. By the end of the third day, West Indies had reached 126 for seven in their second innings, taking their overall lead to 155 runs against Pakistan.
