'No Rules for Those in Power': Nabil Gabol gets Traffic Police Salute while Riding Without Helmet

KARACHI – Karachi’s traffic rules seem to have discovered new VIP section, at least if a viral video featuring PPP MNA Nabil Gabol is anything to go by. A clip circulating on social media shows Nabeel Gabol riding a motorcycle without a helmet at Regal Chowk in Karachi’s Saddar area, reportedly speeding through the busy road.

As ordinary citizens are often stopped and fined for the same violation, the Member of the National Assembly appeared to receive a much warmer response, a traffic police official was seen saluting him instead of issuing a warning.

The unusual scene sparked fresh debate among citizens, with many questioning whether helmets are mandatory for everyone or only for those without political connections.

The episode brought back memories of Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab’s earlier helmet controversy, when he arrived at the Sindh Assembly on a motorcycle without a helmet and later admitted to two traffic violations, riding without a helmet and not having a motorcycle licence.

At the time, the mayor had promised with a smile, “I will now get a helmet and also apply for a licence.” With another prominent political figure making headlines for a helmet-free ride, Karachi residents are once again asking the same question: Are traffic laws truly for everyone, or does a political title come with a built-in helmet exemption?
