The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a fuel charge adjustment (FCA) of Rs 0.40 per unit for K-Electric’s August 2024 fuel costs, which will reflect in customer bills in January 2025. This adjustment reflects the fluctuations in global fuel prices and changes in K-Electric’s power generation mix, a standard practice that aligns fuel costs with market conditions. Fuel charge adjustments allow utilities to recover or pass on savings from shifts in fuel costs to customers, as per NEPRA’s approval. When global fuel prices decrease, customers may see negative FCA adjustments, leading to reductions in their bills. The approved FCA for August 2024 will apply to all customer categories except lifeline customers, Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS), and prepaid metering users, in line with NEPRA’s decision. This adjustment is part of NEPRA’s regular oversight to ensure utility pricing reflects real-time fuel market trends and is duly communicated to customers.
